Saad Festival, a well-known Catholic tradition celebrated after Lent as a way to let loose after the prohibitions of the religious holidays.

Saad actually stems from a religious basis although this might be difficult to believe if you choose to experience the weeklong, all-night parties that characterize the happening. The Hiligaynon word Saad means faith and this festivity keeps the spirit of unity amongst its people. It is one of the many festivals in Iloilo and it is celebrated in one of its municipalities – Leganes.

Wherever I go, I can see that everyone uses their mobile phones. According to The London School of Economics and Political Science, 3.8 billion people using the internet and active social media users account for 2.89 billion people, which is a penetration of 39%. This a huge number of social media users and the question is, what can we get from using it?

Social media is really helpful for me because I can use it for academics purposes. Most of my teachers use Facebook as a medium for relaying information for our class. Messenger is also used for information dissemination aside from communication, Gmail is used for a more formal means of communicating with our teachers and as well as with my classmates for sharing notes and e-books.

Aside from its academic uses, social media serves as a close friend to me. When I feel lonely, happy, excited and nervous, I vent it on Twitter for example. I am able to tweet what I want even if it seems that I am talking to myself.

In Instagram, I am also able to express and show places, people I am with and experiences through photos. I can also see the latest ‘whereabouts’ and ‘whatabouts’ of my favorite artists.

Some of my Facebook friends are posting, sharing memes for likes and they don’t mind if other people are being bullied as long as they are praised for being funny. Some are trying to copy someone else and they forgot to be who they are beacuse of the trends that they see. As users of social media, we should be mindful of what we are doing online.

When I was in High School, I post on Facebook every week, I tweet almost everything and I post even the most random photo on Instagram but now, I assess if what I will be posting, sharing, or tweeting is worthy. I post something worth sharing like my achievements in school so that my family from far places will be proud of me and I share issues of national concern so that my facebook friends will be aware about these issues and they will share it.

We cannot deny the fact that social media is indeed both useful and harmful. As users, we should be responsible of what we are posting online because there is a tendency that everyone in the world can see it.

Internet is essential in our everyday lives for it is one of the primary mediums for communication and information dissemination. Nowadays, there are a lot of internet services or internet providers all over the world for they know for a fact that internet is not just a simple want but it slowly becomes a need for the people.One can access the internet through connecting to both wired and wireless services like WiFi, mobile data, and hotspots.Google Chrome as we all know is one of the popular browsers and on my view as a student, I am able to look for the information I need with just a simple click and it gives not just one but a lot of results for a certain topics which includes images, news, videos etc. Also, it is very convenient, simple for I just have to log in using my gmail account and I can alter the theme of my browser. On the other hand, the cons of using chrome is that it takes up a lot of memory and when I accidentally closed a tab, the other tabs will also close.Another service that I often use is for communication specifically, the Gmail. It is convenient and accessible for it delivers email in a fast and secure manner. It’s not just only for communication purposes but I am able to use it to sign in to different social media sites. Aside from the pros, the cons of using Gmail is that some emails are too slow to send, it does not converts files easily and when I am using my mobile phone, I can’t attach some files to my emails.Lastly, Canva is also one of the services that I use both for entertainment and educational purposes. It is an online design platform wherein I am able to customize my own designs and graphics like collage, logos, presentation and cards. The cons of Canva is that I cannot change the dimensions of some images when I started editing it, when I am making a presentation, I need to save it first as an image then put it into a powerpoint and some premium design templates needs to be paid before using.Internet is unquestionably powerful for it can make and break. It can make and provide useful services but at the same time, if not used responsibly, it can break a person.

Since I was young, I am fond of playing outdoor games together with my cousins. Enjoying the life of being a stress-free child wherein you will be scolded if you have done something wrong but then again, doing the same thing over and over. It is really fun and not until my sister gave me a cell phone with a keypad.

Having a phone in the past felt like you are one step ahead from your other friends because you have something that they don’t. You enjoyed using it to the point that you forgot your friends who are out there waiting for you to come outside and play.

Nonetheless, you continue discovering what more a phone can give and amaze you. On a personal note, I played with it a lot like the Space Impact and Snakes. It was really fun but then you realized that something has changed.

As you grow fond of that tiny phone, the distance of your playmates also grew bigger. They no longer wait for you outside and it looks like they are happy even without you.

You have come to realize that regardless of the benefits the tiny phone can give such as being able to contact your mother to buy you stuff for school project, call your bestfriend to ask for answers for a not-so-hard assignment and enjoy other features that it has, it is still a different feeling being connected to you friends and family.

The feeling is different to be surrounded by the people whom you love and whom you are connected to personally. So what are you waiting for? Stand up, go out there and play with your playmates just like the old times. I know I cannot change what has already happened but I know it is not too late to use what I have now such as this tiny computer to my advantage.
